**Manchester United Eye Benjamin Sesko if Viktor Gyokeres Joins Arsenal – Journalist Reports**
With the summer transfer window in full swing, both Manchester United and Arsenal are actively searching for reinforcements up front, particularly targeting a new striker. Despite Manchester United maintaining confidence in young striker Rasmus Hojlund, there’s a clear intention within the club to add another attacking option to strengthen their front line.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are widely expected to bring in a new centre-forward in the coming weeks. As is often the case with high-profile clubs competing in the same market, their shortlist of targets overlaps significantly. One of the names on both clubs’ radar is Viktor Gyokeres, the prolific Sporting CP striker who has impressed across Europe with his performances.
According to reports from journalist Ben Jacobs via *The United Stand*, Arsenal currently appear to be in pole position to secure Gyokeres’ signature. It is believed that the Swedish forward has expressed a preference to join the North London club, effectively turning down interest from Manchester United. If Arsenal are successful in landing Gyokeres, it would leave United needing to activate an alternative plan to fill the striker role.
Jacobs has now suggested that Manchester United could redirect their attention toward RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko if Gyokeres ultimately joins Arsenal. Sesko, who has also been strongly linked with Arsenal, is valued at around £67 million. However, if Arsenal land Gyokeres first, it may clear the path for United to pursue Sesko without further competition from the Gunners.
This potential situation is described as a “sliding doors” moment, where whichever striker Arsenal ends up signing may directly determine who Manchester United move for. Jacobs explained that should Arsenal win the race for Gyokeres, it would not necessarily mean United were completely ruled out of the equation for Sesko, especially considering they had made a compelling approach for him just 12 months ago. At that time, Sesko chose to remain at Leipzig, but United’s interest reportedly remains strong.
From a performance standpoint, Gyokeres appears to be the more established of the two at the moment. He’s currently outperforming Sesko and has the added benefit of having previously worked under manager Ruben Amorim, which may further entice Arsenal. Sesko, however, is younger and represents a longer-term investment. Though he hasn’t yet proven himself at the very highest level, his potential is undeniable—similar to how Hojlund was viewed prior to his move to Old Trafford.
Ultimately, Arsenal’s decision on who to sign could significantly shape Manchester United’s transfer direction. The Red Devils may have to act quickly and decisively once Arsenal’s intentions become clear.
