The 28-year-old Brentford goalkeeper joined Arsenal on a temporary loan last summer and has since become their primary goalkeeper, impressing with his performances in 22 Premier League matches and in the Champions League, notably in the recent penalty shootout victory over FC Porto.
Despite uncertainties surrounding Aaron Ramsdale’s future, Arsenal has a clear strategy for Raya. Romano, in his Daily Briefing, revealed that there is a “100% guarantee” that Raya will make a permanent move to Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window. This decision stems from a gentleman’s agreement between Arsenal and Brentford, which states that Arsenal will pay £27 million to secure Raya’s services once his loan spell expires.
Romano elaborated on Arsenal’s initial interest in signing Raya last summer and their subsequent agreement with Brentford, which was adjusted due to Financial Fair Play regulations. This led to the current loan deal with a purchase option, ultimately resulting in an agreement for Arsenal to acquire Raya permanently.
Raya himself is content with his situation at Arsenal and has played a significant role in the team’s success this season, with Arsenal currently leading the Premier League standings.
