Brighton & Hove Albion concede ground in bid to retain Carlos Baleba, paving the way for a possible move to Manchester United

Manchester United’s interest in Carlos Baleba has received a major boost after Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly lowered their valuation of the midfielder. The Old Trafford club are preparing for a midfield reshuffle, especially with Casemiro expected to depart once his current contract runs out. As a result, United have been actively exploring options to strengthen that area of the squad ahead of the summer transfer window, with Baleba remaining a long-term target.

Previously, Brighton had placed a hefty £100 million price tag on the 22-year-old, effectively discouraging any serious negotiations. That valuation made a potential move highly unlikely, even for a club with United’s financial capabilities. However, circumstances have shifted in recent months. Baleba’s performances this season have not quite matched expectations, leading Brighton to reassess their stance. The revised, lower asking price has now reopened the possibility of a deal, putting United back on alert as they reconsider their options.

Behind the scenes, Brighton appear to be preparing for the midfielder’s possible exit. Reports suggest the club has already begun scouting replacements, including Caleb Yirenkyi, a promising young talent currently playing for FC Nordsjælland. This move indicates that the Seagulls are planning ahead and may be ready to transition if Baleba departs. Despite this, the player still has three years remaining on his existing contract, meaning Brighton are not under immediate pressure to sell unless their valuation is met.

Earlier in the year, Brighton CEO Paul Barber made it clear that the club had not received any formal approach from United and had no intention of selling Baleba during the January transfer window. At the time, he emphasized the club’s desire to retain the midfielder while acknowledging his quality and long-term potential.

Now, the situation appears to have evolved. While Brighton previously stood firm, there is growing recognition within the club that keeping Baleba may no longer be realistic if the right offer arrives. The shift in their position suggests a willingness to negotiate, effectively opening the door for Manchester United to make a serious move for the talented midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.
