Chelsea FC plans to end the contract of a key player this summer as two players in his position return from injury.

Chelsea is reportedly taking a cautious approach in deciding Conor Gallagher’s new contract, waiting to assess the performances of summer additions Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia. Nkunku, a high-profile French player, arrived from RB Leipzig for a £52 million transfer but suffered a knee injury in preseason, requiring surgery. Lavia, signed from Southampton, also faced setbacks with a muscular issue and an ankle injury in September, delaying his debut.

Chelsea aims to evaluate Nkunku and Lavia’s impact on the team once they recover fully. Currently, Gallagher, who stepped up in their absence, has been a key player, starting every Premier League game and even captaining the team. Despite his contract expiring in 2025, Chelsea seems to be postponing decisions on his future until Nkunku and Lavia return to full fitness.

Gallagher, recognized for his stellar performances, is versatile in fulfilling both defensive and offensive roles. However, contract negotiations for the 23-year-old have reportedly stalled. Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, emphasized the need for agreement from all parties in contract talks and commended Gallagher’s exceptional contributions.

Pochettino expressed satisfaction with Gallagher’s performance but indicated that contract discussions would take time, emphasizing the importance of aligning intentions between the player and the club. The manager acknowledged Gallagher’s excellence and the team’s delight in his contributions this season.
