Chelsea star Thiago Silva announced this morning the club he will be joining after leaving Stamford Bridge.

Thiago Silva’s farewell to his Chelsea teammates was a candid and critical assessment of the team’s current state and future prospects. As he prepares to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires next month, Silva, 39, did not hold back in addressing what he sees as a major issue within the squad: the players’ egos.

During his time with Chelsea, Silva experienced the high of winning the Champions League in his debut season, but he has also seen the team’s performance decline in subsequent years. This season has been particularly challenging, with managerial changes—Graham Potter’s departure followed by struggles under Mauricio Pochettino—contributing to a tumultuous period for the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the veteran Brazilian defender emphasized the need for a collective effort and a shift in mindset among the players who will continue with Chelsea after his departure. Silva urged them to prioritize the team’s success over personal pride. “These lads need to understand that Chelsea needs to battle for the top spots,” Silva asserted. “I believe it will succeed if we shed a little of our ego and work for the team. Unfortunately, nothing will change in the circumstance if we don’t take that action.”

Silva, who has already decided to return to his former club Fluminense when the Brazilian transfer market opens on July 10, reflected on the significance of representing Chelsea. “You know, I know what it means to wear a Chelsea shirt. If I had to convey a message to the lads present, I would like them to comprehend that their efforts to reach Chelsea had to be worthwhile.”

He was critical of the team’s recent performances, suggesting they were not up to the standard expected of Chelsea. “Because our current campaign is unworthy of Chelsea. It’s not. And I believe that they must do more the next year.” Silva also highlighted the unwavering support of the fans, who have consistently shown up in large numbers despite the team’s poor form. “You can see that the supporters of the team never once abandoned the games. We were eighth, or ninth, I believe? There were always supporters, too.”

Acknowledging the fans’ loyalty, Silva pointed out that they continued to support the team even when they were disappointed. “They booed us off a little at the conclusion of the game, but the crowd in the stands is always there, consistently numbering in the 40,000s and 45,000s. They might have thrown rocks at us if we were someplace else; we are aware of this in our nation.”

Thiago Silva’s parting words serve as both a critique and a call to action for Chelsea’s current squad. His message underscores the need for unity and selflessness if the team is to reclaim its place among the Premier League’s elite. As he prepares to return to Brazil, Silva leaves behind a challenge for his former teammates: to honor the Chelsea shirt and the supporters by striving for the success that has eluded them in recent seasons.
