Confirmed reports affirm the certainty of Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United, contingent on a particular condition.

Sancho, known for his outstanding performance as a top winger at Dortmund from 2017 to 2021, recently returned to the German club from Manchester United on a temporary basis due to a falling-out with manager Erik ten Hag.

Expressing a sense of being back “home,” Sancho indicated a strong connection to Dortmund. However, the likelihood of his extended stay beyond the loan remains uncertain. Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admitted financial constraints may hinder a permanent deal for Sancho and another loanee, Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen.

Kehl acknowledged the challenge of negotiating permanent options, citing the unrealistic nature of exercising purchase options for both players. Despite Dortmund’s desire for permanency, the club struggled to secure favorable terms in negotiations, partly due to Manchester United’s decision not to include an option to buy in Sancho’s loan agreement.

This lack of a purchase option limits Dortmund’s leverage in potential future negotiations, reminiscent of Manchester United’s past loan agreements, such as Alexis Sanchez’s move to Inter Milan in 2019. While there’s potential for Sancho’s value to rise if he regains peak form at Dortmund, the club’s ability to retain him depends on financial capacity and negotiating power in future dealings.

In essence, Dortmund faces challenges in securing permanent deals for Sancho and Maatsen, with financial constraints and negotiating dynamics playing crucial roles. The absence of a purchase option in Sancho’s loan agreement adds complexity, reflecting a pattern observed in Manchester United’s past loan dealings. Dortmund’s ability to retain Sancho hinges on their financial capacity and negotiating strength in future transfer discussions.
