Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly keen on Manchester United return due to ties with Ruben Amorim, says former Red Devils teammate.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in football has become a subject of speculation as he enters the final year of his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. Despite nearing his 40th birthday in February 2025, the Portuguese star remains determined to continue playing, with impressive form for both club and country keeping him relevant on the world stage. Rumors have linked him to a potential move within the Middle East, with Al-Hilal being a possible destination to replace Neymar, whose departure from the club is reportedly imminent. At the same time, some suggest Ronaldo could still thrive in a return to the Premier League, owing to his relentless goal-scoring ability.

One intriguing possibility is a third stint at Manchester United under the management of Ruben Amorim, Ronaldo’s former youth teammate for Portugal. Amorim, now in charge at Old Trafford, has sparked speculation about a reunion. Ronaldo enjoyed immense success in his first spell with United, winning the Champions League and his first Ballon d’Or, but his second stint ended on a sour note in November 2022. His exit followed a controversial interview in which he criticized the club and its then-manager Erik ten Hag, leading to his release. However, Ronaldo still managed to score 27 goals in 54 appearances during that period, proving his enduring quality on the pitch.

Former United striker Louis Saha, who played alongside Ronaldo during his first tenure at the club, believes the superstar would welcome the chance to return to Old Trafford if circumstances allowed. Speaking to Betfred, Saha stated, “I do think Cristiano Ronaldo would love to come back to the club in a role where he’s respected. He left on somewhat difficult terms, so the club’s leadership might not be keen on it, but the players and fans understood his point of view.” Saha added that Ronaldo’s potential return would not be driven solely by his connection with Amorim but by his belief that he could still make a meaningful contribution to the team.

However, several factors weigh into this scenario. Ronaldo’s departure from United under strained circumstances created challenges that might complicate a return. The club’s leadership and current squad dynamics could pose hurdles, despite Ronaldo’s prolific scoring record and popularity among fans. On the other hand, staying in Saudi Arabia with a potential move to Al-Hilal offers financial rewards and the chance to remain influential in the league, especially as Neymar’s replacement.

Ultimately, Ronaldo’s next move will likely depend on his personal ambitions, including his pursuit of 1,000 career goals, and whether he feels he can still perform at the highest level. Whether he chooses to pursue a new chapter with Manchester United, remain in Saudi Arabia, or explore other options, Ronaldo’s future promises to remain a compelling narrative in the football world.
