Former footballer Darren Bent has voiced his endorsement for Chelsea to pursue a deal with Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, emphasizing the 31-year-old’s goal-scoring capabilities as a valuable asset for Mauricio Pochettino’s team. In a plea to Chelsea, Bent expressed his belief that Wilson’s prowess could significantly contribute to the team’s success.
Wilson has emerged as a potential transfer target for Chelsea during the January window, with reports suggesting interest from West Ham United as well. Currently sidelined due to injury, Wilson’s potential move is contingent on Newcastle’s demand for a transfer fee of at least £18 million.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent praised Wilson, stating, “I think Callum Wilson is great. Huge admirer of his. He always seems to score when he plays.” The former footballer suggested that Wilson could be a suitable addition for both West Ham and Chelsea.
Bent further elaborated on the potential benefits of acquiring Wilson, asserting, “I think it works really well if either side can get him.” While acknowledging the striker’s impressive track record of 86 goals in 215 Premier League games, Bent highlighted the concern of Wilson being injury-prone, a factor that might give Chelsea pause given their existing challenges in that department.
In contemplating Wilson’s potential destination, Bent expressed a slight inclination towards West Ham, stating, “I’m not sure why, but I seem to be leaning more in the direction of West Ham. He is going to start in both clubs. He is going to start if he plays for West Ham. He is going to start if he joins Chelsea.”
As Chelsea faces a pressing need for a striker, the endorsement from Darren Bent adds to the speculation surrounding Wilson’s potential move, emphasizing the delicate balance between the player’s goal-scoring abilities and concerns about his injury susceptibility.
