Manchester United has faced a challenging season, but one of the few highlights has been the performance of their Portuguese midfielder. He returned to the starting lineup for United’s final home game of the 2023–24 season and delivered an impressive performance. Demonstrating his consistent creativity, the 29-year-old created five chances and made 11 significant plays into the final third. His outstanding play earned him the Player of the Match award.
Due to his recent influential performances, there is speculation that multiple teams are looking to sign him before the summer transfer window opens. According to the Manchester Evening News, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have expressed interest in acquiring Fernandes. Additionally, there are reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested to a friend that he should consider joining Al Nassr.
Following United’s victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night, Fernandes discussed the team’s tough season and expressed his determination to triumph over Manchester City in the upcoming FA Cup final. He emphasized that their mission is far from complete. In an interview with Sky Sports, Fernandes stated, “The FA Cup final is the biggest game of the season, and we still have one game left in the Premier League.”
Fernandes acknowledged the difficulties the team has faced, pointing out that their position in the table reflects their struggles. He expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout the season. “The fans have been amazing and have supported us throughout,” he said. “We are all very thankful for their dedication.”
Despite their efforts, Fernandes admitted that the team has not achieved the desired results. “We have been trying our best, but the outcomes have not met our expectations,” he stated. “Everyone has worked hard, but it’s clear we need to do more to achieve better results.”
During the interview, Fernandes was asked if he would continue to lead the club towards their goals. He responded confidently, saying, “I will stay here as long as the club wants me to.” He emphasized his commitment to the team, explaining that he does not wish to be a player the club does not want. “If, for any reason, the club doesn’t want me, then I will leave, but I believe they want me here,” he added.
The interview was cut short when United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, interrupted to bring Fernandes along for the team’s lap of honor. Shortly after, Sky Sports aired Ten Hag’s address to the Old Trafford crowd, where a few boos were audible. Ten Hag expressed his gratitude to the supporters, acknowledging the difficult season but praising the fans’ consistent support. “Thank you all for your incredible support this season,” he said. “It has been a challenging year, but your unwavering support for the team has remained constant.”
