Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is set to commence training with his former club this week as he prepares for an unexpected return to football!

Mark Goldbridge, a prominent Manchester United supporter and YouTuber, unleashed a tirade after the team’s devastating 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, labeling one of the club’s recent acquisitions as “one of the worst moves” in its storied history. The loss at Selhurst Park marked a low point in United’s season, with Michael Olise, a player reportedly on United’s radar for a potential transfer, delivering a standout performance by scoring two goals for Palace. Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also found the net for Palace, adding to United’s woes on the night.

Goldbridge’s frustration reached its peak during the game when a United goal was disallowed for a perceived foul on goalkeeper Dean Henderson. In an impassioned live stream, he vehemently disputed the decision, expressing his disbelief at the referee’s call.

The performance of United’s new goalkeeper, Onana, also came under scrutiny, particularly for his role in conceding goals against Palace. Onana’s errors, including letting Olise’s second goal slip through him and possibly being at fault for Mateta’s strike, intensified criticism from fans like Goldbridge. Even a late chance for Palace’s Odsonne Edouard, which hit the post, did little to alleviate Goldbridge’s frustration.

In the aftermath of the match, Goldbridge took to social media to vent his dissatisfaction with Onana’s performance, asserting that the decision to swap David De Gea for the Cameroonian goalkeeper would be remembered as a disastrous move for the club. De Gea, a seasoned goalkeeper who had previously won the Premier League Golden Glove award during the 2022-23 season, departed United on a free transfer last summer. Despite his proven track record, the club opted to sign Onana from Inter Milan for a hefty fee of £47.2 million.

De Gea’s departure left a void in United’s goalkeeping department, and Onana’s arrival was intended to fill that gap. However, as Goldbridge’s comments indicate, many supporters feel that De Gea’s departure was premature and that his replacement has yet to prove himself worthy of the role. De Gea’s future remains uncertain, with rumors swirling about potential moves to various leagues, including the MLS, the Saudi Premier League, or a return to his native Spain.

The disappointment expressed by Goldbridge and other fans underscores the high stakes involved in player transfers and the intense scrutiny faced by both players and club management. For Manchester United, the quest for success on the pitch is an ongoing challenge, with every decision scrutinized and evaluated against the backdrop of the club’s illustrious history and lofty ambitions.
