In the early morning update by Fabrizio Romano, Sporting CP turns down Chelsea’s £90 million offer for their exceptional star, pushing for a higher sum of £100 million.

Chelsea’s bold move to secure Sporting CP’s standout player, Viktor Gyokeres, for a staggering $92 million has hit a roadblock in the fiercely competitive realm of football transfers. Despite Gyokeres’ stellar performance this season with 20 goals and 10 assists in just 24 appearances, Sporting CP remains steadfast in demanding a hefty €100 million, citing an inflexible release clause as the decisive factor.

Sporting CP’s manager, Ruben Amorim, staunchly defended the team’s position, labeling Chelsea’s initial €85 million bid as insufficient while calmly navigating the swirling transfer rumors. Gyokeres, who joined Sporting CP in 2023 for a modest €20 million, has evolved into a crucial asset, contributing to the team’s remarkable 30-goal tally in his debut season. With a contract extending until 2028, there’s no immediate pressure for Sporting CP to part ways with the prolific striker.

Gyokeres echoed Sporting’s stance, publicly expressing his lack of interest in potential suitors. Meanwhile, Chelsea, grappling with goal-scoring challenges, is reportedly open to considering offers for Armando Broja as they explore various market options. However, the potential return from injuries of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, following their stints in the Africa Cup of Nations, introduces uncertainty into Chelsea’s transfer strategy and could jeopardize the reported deal for Gyokeres to Stamford Bridge.

All eyes are now on Chelsea as the transfer saga unfolds, with the expectation that they will meet Sporting CP’s valuation of €100 million for the Swedish goal-scoring dynamo. The intricacies of this footballing drama intensify as the negotiations continue, shaping the narrative of Gyokeres’ potential move to Stamford Bridge.
