Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has acknowledged that, even if the team secures trophies this season, it might not influence Jurgen Klopp to stay at the club. Klopp, who unexpectedly announced his departure from Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season, has had a highly successful nine-year tenure.
Despite Klopp’s previous achievements, such as winning the UEFA Champions League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League, the remaining months of his Liverpool tenure could bring more silverware. After their Carabao Cup victory, Liverpool is on the brink of a historic quadruple, leading the Premier League and being strong contenders in the UEFA Europa League and FA Cup.
Gomez commented on whether a quadruple win could impact Klopp’s decision, stating, “No, definitely not. Considering his lengthy tenure here, I believe he understands he’s accomplished everything possible. He’s won it all. Everyone respects his choice, and we comprehend it.”
Acknowledging Klopp’s wisdom, Gomez emphasized that Klopp is prepared for his decision, and the team needs to honor it. Gomez stated, “He’s one of the wisest individuals we know, and when he states he’s prepared, he truly is. It is what it is; we can’t linger on that; we simply need to honor his decision.”
Recognizing that this is Klopp’s final chapter at Liverpool, Gomez highlighted the team’s commitment to giving their utmost for him. He said, “We recognize it’s his final chapter, and we want to give our utmost for him. We always have, but now that the finish line is in sight, it adds an extra layer of significance.”
Liverpool continues their pursuit of the historic quadruple as they face Southampton in the FA Cup fifth-round encounter at Anfield on Wednesday.
