Jim Ratcliffe directs Manchester United scouts to closely monitor ex-Real Madrid wonderkid, valued at £43 million, as a possible replacement for Antony, with a swap transfer under consideration.

Manchester United is reportedly eyeing a move for Takefusa Kubo, the Japanese star who has excelled since departing Real Madrid. The Red Devils are said to be considering him as a replacement for underperforming Antony, who made a high-profile move from Ajax. Kubo, previously associated with Barcelona and Real Madrid, has impressed at Real Sociedad, where he contributed 15 goals and 13 assists in 67 games since his £5.5 million transfer.

Having sent scouts to observe Kubo on at least seven occasions this season, Manchester United is closely monitoring the 22-year-old’s performances. Antony, facing a potential replacement, may be part of the deal, possibly moving to the opposite direction on loan. Despite Sociedad rejecting a £26 million offer from Napoli in the summer, they value Kubo at around £43 million, and his contract extends until 2027.

Concerns about Financial Fair Play punishments are reportedly making Manchester United cautious about making January moves. A potential swoop for Kubo could be delayed until the summer, given uncertainties surrounding the futures of wide forwards like Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho under manager Erik ten Hag.

Kubo’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, praising him as a “world-class player.” Kubo himself expressed a desire to be crucial for his team. As Manchester United contemplates strengthening its squad, Kubo emerges as a potential target to enhance their attacking options. Scouts from the club were present during Sociedad’s goalless draw with Real Betis, where Kubo was named Player of the Match.

The situation is dynamic, and with multiple factors at play, Manchester United’s interest in Kubo remains a notable subplot in the evolving football landscape.
