Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, has revealed that both goalkeeper Alisson and winger Diogo Jota are expected to be sidelined for an extended period, adding to the team’s existing injury woes. Ahead of their upcoming matches against Luton and the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, the Reds find themselves grappling with a significant injury crisis.
In addition to Alisson and Jota, players like Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, and Joel Matip are already in the treatment room. Klopp, in a press conference, provided updates on the team’s fitness situation, indicating that the injury concerns are likely to persist.
Alisson is out with a muscle injury, and while the exact timeline for his return is uncertain, Klopp made it clear that it won’t be in the foreseeable future. Jota, dealing with a knee issue, is also ruled out, and Klopp hinted that his recovery might extend into months rather than weeks. Curtis Jones is sidelined with a bone/ligament issue.
Regarding the other injured players, Klopp emphasized a day-by-day approach, especially with muscle-related injuries. He noted that the lineup for upcoming games will reveal who is fit and who isn’t.
Klopp mentioned that the longer-term absentees, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai, are progressing but are not yet back in team training, making them unavailable for the upcoming matches.
While Klopp provided updates on several players, there was no mention of Mohamed Salah, causing concern among fans following reports suggesting he aggravated a hamstring injury. Additionally, there was no update on Darwin Nunez, who was substituted during a recent victory over Brentford due to a minor complaint.
Despite the injury setbacks, Klopp emphasized the team’s commitment to forging ahead with the players available, taking it day by day and game by game. The uncertainty surrounding key players poses challenges for Liverpool as they navigate a demanding schedule.
