**Language and Education Requirements:**
Candidates must demonstrate fluency in English. To qualify, applicants should have completed a college diploma, CEGEP, or a comparable non-university certificate within one to two years of study. Equivalent work experience may also be considered in place of formal education.
**Experience and Skills Requirements:**
Applicants should possess one to two years of experience in a similar legal support role, ideally with a focus on immigration-related tasks. Strong technical skills are essential, as the position requires proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Windows. Familiarity with electronic mail systems is also important for effective communication.
**Core Responsibilities:**
The Legal Assistant will play a key role in the daily operations of the legal team by performing a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
– **Information Coordination:** Efficiently managing the flow of information to ensure timely communication between clients and legal professionals.
– **Scheduling and Appointment Management:** Organizing and confirming client appointments to maintain the team’s productivity.
– **File Management:** Maintaining and updating filing systems to support accurate record-keeping.
– **Document Preparation:** Drafting and typing a variety of legal documents and correspondence, ensuring they meet both professional and legal standards.
– **Proofreading:** Reviewing documents and correspondence for grammatical accuracy, legal compliance, and clarity.
– **Basic Bookkeeping:** Handling essential bookkeeping tasks as needed to support the financial operations of the department.
– **Legal Research:** Conducting research to retrieve records, court files, and other relevant legal documents as requested.
– **Documentation Completion:** Preparing and completing various legal documentation required for client cases.
– **Client Advising:** Providing guidance to clients on legal procedures, ensuring they understand the steps involved in their cases.
