LIVE FROM OLD TRAFFORD: “If Rashford can’t thrive under a steady manager like Amorim, his career is over! At 27, there’s no excuse for these struggles. He’s on the verge of following Jesse Lingard’s trajectory. If he doesn’t perform now, United must find a replacement. This is his last chance—deliver or move on!”

Troy Deeney has voiced disappointment over the current state of Marcus Rashford’s career, as reports emerge that Manchester United might consider selling the forward. At 27, Rashford, who once appeared destined for superstardom, has been criticized for inconsistency this season. In 23 appearances across all competitions, he has managed only seven goals and three assists, a significant dip from his previous form.

United are reportedly open to receiving offers in the region of £40 million for Rashford, who is one of the club’s highest earners at £325,000 per week. This development has raised questions about Rashford’s ability to fulfill the immense potential he displayed early in his career. For many, including Deeney, this would symbolize a failure to meet the high expectations set for him.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney emphasized the need for Rashford to take greater responsibility at this stage of his career. “At 27, you should be at the peak of your powers. The financial side is sorted, so who are you as a person? What do you stand for?” he remarked, highlighting the importance of maturity and focus. Deeney also drew parallels between Rashford and Jesse Lingard, a former United player whose career trajectory serves as a cautionary example. Lingard, now 31, left United in 2022 after a mixed spell that, despite some high points, was often overshadowed by questions about his priorities and personal life.

Deeney expressed regret over Rashford’s inability to fully capitalize on his talent, stating, “I’m disappointed because Rashford could have been a world-beater, a shining star, and a club legend. Instead, I fear he’ll tarnish that legacy and end up like Jesse Lingard.” Lingard’s career at United included moments of brilliance, such as his decisive goal in the 2016 FA Cup final, but ultimately fell short of consistent excellence.

Rashford, once heralded as the next Wayne Rooney for United, now faces intense scrutiny at a pivotal juncture in his career. While he has achieved notable milestones, including a remarkable 30-goal season last year, concerns about his focus and character have persisted. If United decides to part ways with Rashford, it would signify not just a shift in the club’s direction but also cast doubt on his ability to solidify a lasting legacy at Old Trafford.

For Rashford, this moment could serve as a critical wake-up call. Whether he reignites his career at United or seeks a fresh start elsewhere, the forward must reflect on his ambitions and step up to deliver consistently, especially as he enters the prime years of his career.
