Luis Diaz has left Liverpool to join a top football club globally after Liverpool reportedly agreed to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

Liverpool’s Colombian forward, Luis Diaz, has found himself at the center of transfer speculation as the summer window unfolds. Barcelona has emerged as a prominent suitor for the 27-year-old, with reports indicating their interest and even plans for executives to meet with Diaz during his participation in the Copa America for Colombia.

Recent developments also saw Newcastle United proposing a swap deal involving Liverpool’s Anthony Gordon, which included Jarell Quansah moving in the opposite direction—a proposal swiftly rejected by Liverpool. Amidst these speculations, James Pearce, reporting for The Athletic, clarified Liverpool’s stance, asserting that the club has not received any offers for Diaz and has no intention to sell him.

Liverpool’s reluctance to entertain offers for Diaz underscores their determination to retain him. Despite Diaz’s modest record of 24 goals in 98 appearances, his dynamic attacking presence has been highly valued, particularly evident in his strong performances towards the end of last season amidst Liverpool’s overall struggles. Critics may point out the potential long-term value of younger players like Gordon, who, at four years Diaz’s junior, would not occupy a non-homegrown spot in the squad.

Liverpool’s history of losing key players like Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling, and Philippe Coutinho in previous years has underscored the need for the club to demonstrate resilience in retaining their current stars. Richard Hughes, involved in Liverpool’s transfer dealings, has emphasized the club’s commitment to retaining Diaz, especially given his promising displays in the ongoing Copa America, suggesting he will play a significant role in Liverpool’s upcoming season.
