Manchester City: Pep Guardiola Shares Update on Rodri and Discusses His Expected Return

    adminBy adminApril 6, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Pep Guardiola has shared a significant update regarding midfielder Rodri and offered insight into his possible return to Manchester City. As the club grapples with an unpredictable and challenging season, its main focus has shifted to securing a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League. Once dominant in the Premier League, the Citizens have quietly surrendered their stronghold on the title, a reign they’ve held for the past four seasons.

This dramatic shift in fortunes is closely linked to the long-term absence of Rodri, who has been sidelined since September due to a serious knee injury. His extended spell away from the pitch has proven costly, with many pointing to his absence as a key factor in City’s loss of form. Guardiola’s hopes for lifting another Premier League title this season have been significantly diminished without his star midfielder.

Fans, understandably eager for Rodri’s return, have been left in the dark for months. However, Guardiola has finally addressed the situation, offering a cautious but optimistic update. Speaking to Super Sport, he acknowledged the gravity of the injury and confirmed that Rodri has missed approximately seven and a half to eight months of action. “It was a difficult injury,” Guardiola remarked. “I would be delighted to have him back soon, but we must be careful.”

While the idea of bringing Rodri back for the season’s final stretch is appealing, Guardiola emphasized the importance of not rushing his recovery. The manager hinted that the team is already thinking ahead, with a vision focused on next season. Rodri is now involved in light training, which marks a step forward in his rehabilitation, but the priority remains his full recovery rather than a hasty return that could jeopardize his long-term fitness.

The impact of Rodri’s absence is stark when viewed through the lens of match statistics. With him in the lineup, City has achieved an impressive win rate of 74.1%, winning 129 games, drawing 26, and losing just 19. Without him, that win rate drops significantly to 61.9%, with only 13 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses. These figures underscore his pivotal role in the squad and reinforce his reputation as one of the world’s top midfielders.

Guardiola hinted that Rodri’s return would be treated almost like a new signing for the 2025/26 campaign, highlighting the club’s strategy to reshape the squad and launch a fresh bid for Premier League glory. The clear message is that while Rodri’s return is near, City will not take any risks with his fitness, ensuring he’s fully ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
