Manchester United encounters a significant setback with the potential season-ending injury to Luke Shaw, leaving them without a recognized left-back and affecting both manager Erik ten Hag and England coach Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024.

Manchester United is set to face a challenging period with the absence of Luke Shaw in the upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium. This setback comes as a significant blow to manager Ten Hag, who has been grappling with a multitude of injuries throughout the season, particularly in the defensive department. Shaw’s unavailability adds to the existing challenges faced by Ten Hag, exacerbating the team’s injury-stricken squad.

In addition to Shaw, another key defensive player, Lisandro Martinez, will be sidelined for around eight weeks due to a knee muscle injury. Martinez’s absence further compounds the defensive woes for Ten Hag, creating a void in the team’s defensive lineup.

Replacing Luke Shaw proves to be a formidable task for United, as there is a lack of viable options in the left-back position. The usual left-back choice, Tyrell Malacia, has been out for the entire season due to knee surgery, with setbacks prolonging his rehabilitation process. Moreover, the premature termination of Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham has limited the team’s defensive options.

Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have struggled to adequately fill in for the injured Shaw, leaving United with a significant defensive dilemma. The severity of Shaw’s muscle injury requires further assessment, and the club has indicated that he could be sidelined for an extended period, possibly several months.

This setback adds to United’s existing injury concerns, presenting a significant challenge for Ten Hag as he navigates through a demanding fixture schedule. The team faces a tough road ahead, with key defensive players unavailable, putting additional pressure on the manager to find effective solutions and maintain competitiveness in the upcoming matches.
