Manchester United is reportedly in talks to extend manager Erik ten Hag’s contract, with initial discussions underway, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Since assuming the role in 2022, Ten Hag guided the team to a commendable third-place finish in the Premier League and secured the Carabao Cup during his debut season. Despite facing challenges in the current campaign, including off-field issues and four defeats, United recently demonstrated resilience with consecutive wins, notably a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Although Ten Hag’s existing contract runs until June 2025, with an option for a one-year extension, discussions about renewal were planned approximately 18 months into the initial agreement.

The club’s leadership, consisting of Chief Executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough, is reportedly content with Ten Hag’s performance and is eager to continue their collaboration.

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership, marked by the Glazer family exploring strategic alternatives, has not impeded regular operations, including discussions on extending key personnel contracts.

Despite recent challenges, such as public disputes with players like Jadon Sancho and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ten Hag is seen as a unifying force that provides stability during uncertain times for the club.

While potential acquisition talks with interested parties like Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim are ongoing, the Glazers, who reportedly seek £6 billion for a complete sale of the club, are yet to respond. The Raine Group, overseeing the takeover process, awaits further communication in this regard.

Amidst these developments, the club remains focused on securing Ten Hag’s continued tenure, recognizing his positive impact despite recent challenges. The potential contract extension reflects a commitment to stability and continuity in the managerial role, underscoring Ten Hag’s role in navigating the team through both successes and challenges.
