Manchester United are reportedly already considering a possible replacement for Ruben Amorim, but they are not the only Premier League club keeping a close watch on developments.
Since being appointed as Manchester United’s manager in November, succeeding Erik ten Hag, Amorim has struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford. His first season in charge has been underwhelming, with the team managing only five victories in the Premier League. In addition to those wins, they have recorded three draws and suffered eight defeats, raising concerns about their performance.
A recent report suggests that the club’s hierarchy may already be making contingency plans for a managerial change if Amorim’s tenure does not improve. They have reportedly identified their preferred choice to take over should they decide to part ways with the Portuguese coach.
Currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League standings, Manchester United are at risk of recording their worst finish since the league was established in 1992. This poor run of form has led to increasing frustration among supporters, with a growing section of the fanbase calling for Amorim’s dismissal despite his relatively short time at the helm.
According to a report from the Italian publication *TuttoSport*, Manchester United have been closely monitoring Inter Milan’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi. The Italian manager, whose contract with Inter is set to expire next year, has been enjoying a successful spell with the club. He guided Inter to the Serie A title last season and currently has them sitting at the top of the league table once again. His impressive track record has put him on United’s radar as a potential candidate for the managerial position if Amorim fails to turn things around.
However, Manchester United are not the only English club interested in securing Inzaghi’s services. Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly keeping tabs on the Inter boss. Spurs are considering him as a possible successor to their current manager, Ange Postecoglou, who has faced his own struggles this season.
Despite the speculation surrounding Amorim’s future, it appears unlikely that the club will make an immediate decision to replace him. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who holds a minority ownership stake in Manchester United, recently voiced his support for the manager during an interview on *The Overlap*.
Ratcliffe spoke highly of Amorim’s efforts, emphasizing the challenges he has faced since taking over at United. He pointed out that Amorim inherited a squad he did not assemble, had little time to implement his tactical approach, and had to adapt to a new language and culture while managing one of the most high-profile clubs in football. Given these circumstances, Ratcliffe believes that Amorim has done an admirable job so far.
