Manchester United Weighing Top Global Football Figures as Potential Replacements for Erik ten Hag Post-Chelsea Match

    adminBy adminApril 5, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

Erik ten Hag, who has one season left on his three-year contract signed in 2022 when he joined Manchester United from Ajax, faces an uncertain future due to mixed results and potential changes following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s co-ownership and a new sporting direction.

Manchester United’s performance has declined since Ten Hag’s promising first season, experiencing 11 losses in 28 Premier League matches in 2023/24, leaving them nine points behind the top four, albeit with a game in hand over fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Despite this, they are anticipated to reach the FA Cup final for the second consecutive year after drawing second-tier Coventry City in the semi-finals.

While Ten Hag is optimistic about impressing Ratcliffe and the new management team, which includes INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford and incoming chief executive Omar Berrada, his future remains uncertain as an audit of United’s football operations is underway.

Although Ten Hag has participated in planning for the summer transfer window, Brailsford has been exploring other managerial options for the next season.

Recent reports have linked Gareth Southgate, along with other potential candidates such as Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Thomas Tuchel, Julen Lopetegui, Zinedine Zidane, Ruben Amorim, and Julian Nagelsmann, indicating that a variety of options are being considered internally.

Notably, Potter, Tuchel, Lopetegui, and Zidane are either currently available or will be soon.

While Ten Hag’s immediate future seems secure under the new regime, uncertainty also surrounds the managerial position of United’s women’s team.

Incumbent boss Marc Skinner’s contract is set to expire in three months, with the team failing to match last season’s success, falling out of contention in both the WSL title race and the hunt for Champions League places.
