Michael Carrick confirms major injury blow as Manchester United star suffers potentially career-ending setback in training, club doctors issue official statement

Michael Carrick has received a significant lift ahead of the next round of fixtures, with one of Manchester United’s key performers returning to full training after an injury scare last weekend.

The interim manager has had nearly two weeks to work closely with his squad since stepping into the role following Rúben Amorim’s departure. His impact has been immediate and impressive. United claimed 13 points from a possible 15 in his opening five matches, recording statement victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur before being held to a 1-1 draw away at West Ham United.

Although the draw in East London slightly disrupted their winning streak, the overall outlook remains highly positive. United are unbeaten in five outings, comfortably placed inside the top four and strongly positioned in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Focus now shifts to a trip to Merseyside, where United will face Everton after the brief break. The Toffees have won two of their last five league matches and currently sit eighth in the Premier League standings. As preparations intensify, the latest updates on United’s injury list offer encouragement.

Harry Maguire sparked concern during the clash with West Ham when he appeared to hurt his hamstring following a challenge with Crysencio Summerville. Substituted in the 68th minute, there were fears of a setback. However, those concerns have eased after club images showed him back in full training. The issue is now believed to be minor, and he is expected to be available for the 23 February encounter with Everton.

Mason Mount has missed recent games against Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham after picking up a knock in training. His last appearance came in the win over Manchester City. Carrick had indicated Mount would likely miss the West Ham match but should be fit in time for Everton, putting him in contention for a return later this month.

Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt has been out since late November with a back problem after starting United’s first 13 league fixtures. Progress is steady, with a comeback targeted for early March.

Youngster Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu remains sidelined by a hamstring injury sustained against Arsenal, with hopes he can return before the campaign concludes.
