Mohamed Salah has revealed that Liverpool has not yet approached him regarding a contract renewal, despite his significant contribution in the 3-0 win over Manchester United. The Egyptian forward, who has been a vital part of Liverpool’s squad for the past eight seasons, expressed that he is treating the current season as though it could be his last at Anfield.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, and there has been no sign from the club of any renewal discussions. After scoring his 214th goal for Liverpool and playing a key role in the victory against Manchester United — a team he has now scored against 15 times — Salah candidly spoke about his uncertain future during an interview with Sky Sports.
“I had a good summer and spent a lot of time trying to stay positive,” Salah said. “As you know, it’s my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it and not dwell on it. I feel free to play football, and we’ll see what happens next year.”
Salah is focusing on making the most of his final year under contract with Liverpool before contemplating his future options. Previously, he mentioned his intention to enjoy his last season fully before making a decision on his next move, pointing out that the club has not engaged in any talks with him about a possible extension. His remarks suggest that he is gradually coming to terms with the prospect that this might indeed be his last season with Liverpool.
Salah further hinted that the absence of contract negotiations has led him to consider the possibility of leaving the club at the end of the season. “Before the game, I thought this might be the last time I play here with Liverpool,” Salah reflected. “No one from the club has spoken to me about a contract, so I’m just thinking: ‘Okay, I’m playing my last season,’ and we’ll see what happens at the end. It’s not up to me, but no one has talked to me from the club. We’ll see.”
In addition to scoring against Manchester United, Salah also played a pivotal role in assisting two goals for Luis Diaz, underscoring his impact on the field. His goal against United marked his third of the season, adding to his goals against Ipswich Town and Brentford.
This situation is not unique to Salah, as other key Liverpool players like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also nearing the end of their contracts, which adds to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of some of Liverpool’s top talents. As the season progresses, the ambiguity regarding Salah’s future remains a significant concern for both the player and Liverpool fans, who are keenly waiting to see how this situation will unfold.
