Jeremie Frimpong’s journey from the Etihad Stadium to Celtic and now Bayer Leverkusen is a testament to his rapid rise in the football world. After nine years with Manchester City, he moved to Celtic in September 2019 for a mere £350,000. Despite the modest transfer fee, Frimpong has emerged as one of the world’s top talents.

Having attended the City Football Academy and played in youth matches, Frimpong decided to join Celtic for adult football. Subsequently, he transferred to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 for £11 million, showcasing his remarkable growth since leaving Manchester City.

Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso in Germany, Frimpong has excelled as a defender, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists in just 21 appearances this season. Notably, he has played as a right back in every goal, highlighting his offensive prowess as a natural defender.

Raised at the City Football Academy alongside talents like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, Frimpong’s offensive skills have shone. While making 41 appearances for the Manchester City Under-18 team, he managed three goals and seven assists. However, his productivity soared under Alonso’s coaching.

Manchester City, facing the challenge of replacing key players like David Silva, Sergio Aguero, and Vincent Kompany, is reportedly considering long-term substitutes for 33-year-old Kyle Walker. Reece James is mentioned as a top priority, but Frimpong’s outstanding performance could make him a valuable asset for Pep Guardiola’s team.

As City plans for the future, Frimpong’s success in Germany adds to the list of potential recruits, including Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies. The hope is that Frimpong continues to shine, providing Guardiola with the dynamic talent that City needs in its evolving squad.
