Zinedine Zidane is emerging as a strong contender for the managerial position at Manchester United, with uncertainties surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future due to a disappointing start to the season. The team’s worst season start in 61 years has prompted considerations for potential replacements, including Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim.

Former Real Madrid manager Zidane is a prominent name in the discussions, and his influence has been praised by several members of the United squad. Casemiro, who played under Zidane at Real Madrid, expressed admiration for the Frenchman’s impact, highlighting his humility, football philosophy, and supportive treatment of players. Casemiro emphasized Zidane’s persistent encouragement for improvement, illustrating his influence on players’ development.

Raphael Varane, another player with experience under Zidane, expressed pride in the last ten years under the coach’s guidance. Varane commended Zidane’s human side, considering him a source of inspiration for many players. Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid left a significant impact on Varane and an entire generation of players at the club.

Even players without a direct Real Madrid or France connection have shown admiration for Zidane. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, when asked about his preferred playing partner, singled out Zidane. Sofyan Amrabat, inspired by Zidane and Andres Iniesta during his upbringing, could find renewed motivation under the coaching of the ’98 World Cup winner. Luke Shaw, during Euro 2020, labeled Zidane as “one of the best midfielders ever.”

As Manchester United considers a managerial change, the positive testimonials from players across different backgrounds underscore Zidane’s universal appeal and potential to make a positive impact on the squad. The prospect of Zidane taking charge at Old Trafford has garnered support from players who appreciate not only his coaching abilities but also his human qualities, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and optimism among the United ranks.
