Pochettino Astonished as Regular Chelsea Starter Valued at £50 Million is Offered for Sale, Potentially to Fund Acquisition of Underperforming Striker by Boehly.

Chelsea has risked upsetting Mauricio Pochettino by reportedly putting Conor Gallagher up for sale, a player the manager highly trusts and values. Despite a disappointing season and underperforming signings, Chelsea plans to open its checkbook in the upcoming transfer window. To fund potential high-profile acquisitions, the club is considering selling players like Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, and Ian Maatsen. The Evening Standard suggests Marc Cucurella and Armando Broja as potential replacements.

However, the reported sale of Conor Gallagher has drawn criticism from Pochettino, who has staunchly supported the 23-year-old midfielder. Gallagher, a regular starter and occasional captain, has been a pivotal figure for Chelsea this season. Pochettino emphasized Gallagher’s importance, citing his dedication, Chelsea values, and significant contributions on the pitch. Despite the player’s integral role and Pochettino’s preference to keep him, Chelsea has allegedly disregarded the manager’s wishes and listed Gallagher for transfer at a £50 million valuation.

Ben Jacobs, a reporter, revealed Chelsea’s intention to sell Gallagher before the winter transfer window, indicating that the club is steadfast in its decision. This move contrasts with Pochettino’s sentiments and could strain relations between the manager and the club’s hierarchy. Gallagher, who attracted interest from Newcastle, Tottenham, and Everton in the past, is reportedly free to leave if a suitable offer is presented.
