**Job Description and Key Responsibilities**
**Breaking News**: Join a dynamic, fast-paced 24/7 newsroom environment where you’ll work alongside a dedicated team of journalists to edit and publish breaking news. Your role will involve the rapid transformation of stories to ensure timely delivery, with a focus on accuracy and engagement.
**Collaborative Efforts**: Work closely with our reporters to identify relevant news angles and deliver stories that appeal to a broad English-speaking readership. Collaboration is essential, as you’ll partner with journalists to create and refine compelling content.
**Story Development**: Bring originality and creativity to your work by generating unique news pieces that resonate with our audience. This role requires the ability to meet strict deadlines, consistently delivering content that is both informative and timely.
**Content Verification**: Ensure the reliability and accuracy of all published materials, including images, videos, and social media content. As an editor, you’ll be responsible for verifying content before it reaches our readers, adhering to a high standard of journalistic integrity.
**Digital Analytics**: Utilize digital analytics tools to measure and enhance the reach and impact of published content. You will monitor audience engagement and make data-driven decisions to refine our content strategy.
**SEO Expertise**: Implement search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to improve content discoverability. Your understanding of SEO will be crucial in attracting and growing readership.
**Team Coordination**: Work effectively with colleagues across various departments, from content creation to technical teams. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate efforts across departments to ensure cohesive publication processes.
**Legal and Ethical Compliance**: Maintain high editorial standards by adhering to Nigerian and global laws governing media, including copyright and ethical guidelines. Staying informed about these regulations is essential for maintaining the paper’s credibility and trustworthiness.
**Requirements**
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in editing roles with a reputable national newspaper. A solid foundation in writing and editing, as well as the ability to adapt to different tones and styles, is essential. You should be adept at working collaboratively within cross-functional teams and be open to coordinating across departments when necessary. Flexibility is key in this role, as editors may need to travel, cover events, or work outside standard hours. Candidates must also be available for weekend work, with a commitment to the position’s demands.
**Additional Expectations**
This position is remote, allowing for a flexible work environment. The monthly salary is NGN 250,000. Editors should demonstrate a willingness to handle extra tasks when required, contributing to a cohesive and productive newsroom.
