Real Madrid ‘greenlight’ swap move with Liverpool to land Reds’ long-standing target

Real Madrid have reportedly given the green light to a dramatic swap proposal involving one of Liverpool’s big summer arrivals who has yet to hit top form. New claims from Spain suggest the La Liga giants are prepared to offer Rodrygo as part of an exchange deal, with Xabi Alonso said to be supportive of the idea.

The proposed arrangement would see Madrid send Rodrygo to Anfield in return for Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, whose integration into English football has been slower than expected following his big-money switch from Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool opened the campaign in superb fashion, winning their first five Premier League matches, but a run of four consecutive defeats allowed Arsenal to take control of the title race. Although recent victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid have steadied things, supporters remain uneasy about the team’s inconsistency — particularly in midfield, where Wirtz has struggled to deliver the influence many anticipated.

Spanish outlet **Defensa Central** reports that Real Madrid are eager to take advantage of the German’s adapting period and believe a swap deal could benefit both sides. According to the publication, the two clubs have shown a willingness to explore the idea. It also notes that Madrid previously stepped away from signing Wirtz because of the high fee involved, but his current situation has reopened the door.

The report quotes a source saying that if Madrid had moved earlier, Wirtz “would not have hesitated” to join them. While the player does not regret choosing Liverpool, the Premier League has presented a tougher challenge than he expected. The adaptation process is ongoing, but progress has been gradual rather than immediate.

Former England international Chris Waddle has also weighed in on Wirtz’s early months at Liverpool, acknowledging the 21-year-old’s undeniable ability but pointing out that both club and international football have posed difficulties. Waddle highlighted the Premier League’s intensity, increased pressure, and potential off-field adjustments as possible factors contributing to the midfielder’s inconsistent displays. He reminded fans that young players often need patience and time, reflecting on his own slow start at Marseille before eventually becoming a beloved figure.

Despite the many layers involved in such a deal, reports insist that Real Madrid’s interest is genuine. The inclusion of Rodrygo — a long-term target admired by Liverpool for several years — only heightens the intrigue surrounding what could become one of the most surprising transfer stories of the season.
