Referee Jarred Gillett Faces Suspension for Controversial Decision on Arsenal Goal against Aston Villa – Arsenal Board Plans Legal Action Against FA to Recover Points, Potentially Securing Top Position Over Liverpool.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has supported the decision to disallow Kai Havertz’s late goal for Arsenal against Aston Villa. Despite Arsenal’s struggles to capitalize on opportunities throughout the game, Havertz seemed to secure a point with a goal, only for it to be nullified by a handball call after a VAR check.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery, who was serving a touchline ban, refrained from commenting on the situation post-match. The match also raised questions about a non-penalty decision for a foul on Gabriel Jesus, contrasting with a similar incident earlier in the day that earned Crystal Palace a penalty. The lack of consistency in officiating was a focal point of criticism.

Gallagher defended the decision on Havertz’s disallowed goal, acknowledging the contact with his arm and stating it aligns with the new rules. He emphasized the positive aspect that the on-field referee spotted the infringement, leading to the VAR check. Regarding another incident involving Matty Cash handling the ball, Gallagher asserted that Havertz’s offense took precedence, justifying the decision to negate Cash’s handball.

Gallagher’s perspective highlighted the importance of on-field decisions and praised the referee for appropriately disallowing the goal. He underscored the significance of referees making more decisions on the field, contributing to a visually clearer and more effective officiating process.
