Despite recent speculation linking Manchester United and Arsenal to a potential move for the renowned striker Karim Benzema, the Frenchman has denied any intention of leaving Al Ittihad.
Benzema completed his switch to Al Ittihad from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, securing a lucrative three-year deal worth £172 million annually. Despite rumors of discontent within the Saudi Arabian club, Benzema’s departure could encounter significant obstacles due to the intricate approval process involving Al Ittihad’s coach Marcelo Gallardo, sporting director Roman Planes, and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport.
Contrary to circulating rumors, Benzema has not expressed dissatisfaction or a desire to part ways with Al Ittihad. Speculation gained momentum when he returned late from a trip to Mauritius, leading to reports of a ‘temporary’ exit desire and scheduled discussions with the club’s administration following interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Benzema’s former club, Lyon, has also been linked with him, adding to the allure of a potential move to the Premier League for the French striker, who enjoyed a prolific spell at Real Madrid, amassing 354 goals in 14 trophy-laden years.
Addressing the rumors, Benzema stated, “It’s entirely false! The French media is at a loss for new ideas. Bigger is better.”
While the financial intricacies of Benzema’s salary might complicate any potential move, his addition could significantly bolster the goal-scoring capabilities of both Manchester United and Arsenal. United currently struggles in ninth place in the Premier League, grappling to find the net, while Arsenal faces challenges in maintaining their title aspirations.
With nine goals and five assists in 15 games for Al Ittihad, Benzema could offer a substantial boost to either club. However, the Saudi team lags behind in the title race, with Al Hilal leading the Saudi Pro League undefeated and holding a considerable points advantage over Al Ittihad, underscoring the challenging journey Benzema’s current team faces.
As the transfer window unfolds, uncertainty surrounds Benzema’s future, with Manchester United and Arsenal potentially eyeing the prolific striker if conditions align favorably.
