Rio Ferdinand Lauds Manchester United Stars De Ligt, Mbeumo, and Lammens for Driving the Club’s Remarkable Comeback

Rio Ferdinand has praised Manchester United’s impressive resurgence under manager Ruben Amorim, commending the entire squad’s collective effort while highlighting Matthijs De Ligt, Bryan Mbeumo, and Senne Lammens as key figures behind the transformation. The United legend believes Amorim’s success has stemmed from a perfect balance of teamwork, tactical organization, and standout individual performances across the pitch.

Speaking on his *Rio Ferdinand Presents* YouTube show, the former defender dismissed the notion that United’s recent turnaround could be credited to one player. “It’s never about just one man,” Ferdinand said. “De Ligt has been immense — probably our best defender this season. He’s not only solid at the back but also dangerous in attack, like that late header he scored recently. More importantly, it’s his mentality and leadership that have raised the levels of everyone around him.”

Since his move from Bayern Munich, De Ligt has rediscovered his best form, becoming a commanding and composed presence in the heart of United’s defense. Once questioned for inconsistency, the Dutch centre-back now looks transformed under Amorim’s guidance. Ferdinand praised his calmness under pressure, intelligent positioning, and ability to marshal the backline — qualities that have brought newfound stability to the team.

Turning his attention to Bryan Mbeumo, Ferdinand lauded the winger’s explosive impact since joining from Brentford. Describing him as “a joke” — his signature phrase for exceptional performances — the former United captain said, “Mbeumo’s been brilliant. He’s added energy, balance, and creativity on the flanks. He stretches defenses, delivers quality crosses, and comes alive in big moments.”

The 25-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite, combining blistering pace with precision and determination. His link-up play with Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha has injected flair and unpredictability into United’s attack. Ferdinand echoed Brentford manager Thomas Frank’s claim that Mbeumo is a “complete winger,” suggesting that the Cameroonian could soon be regarded among the Premier League’s elite.

Ferdinand also singled out new goalkeeper Senne Lammens for his vital role in United’s defensive resurgence. “You can’t overlook the keeper,” he said. “Since Lammens came in, there’s a real calmness. The backline trusts him, and that makes a huge difference.”

Lammens’ confident shot-stopping, communication, and composure have strengthened United’s defensive foundation. Ferdinand concluded that every great side has a strong core — and with De Ligt, Lammens, and Mbeumo, United now have exactly that.
