Rio Ferdinand Slams Manchester United Player Following Chelsea Showdown

The fallout from Manchester United’s fiery Premier League clash with Chelsea continues to dominate headlines, and this time it was Rio Ferdinand who delivered the harshest verdict. The former United defender singled out Casemiro for heavy criticism after the Brazilian’s sending-off, making it clear he believes the midfielder should be among the first to leave the club.

Speaking with visible frustration, Ferdinand argued that Casemiro’s red card epitomised everything wrong with United’s current midfield. He described the veteran’s display as reckless and abysmal, claiming the 32-year-old looked like a player who had completely forgotten the basics of football. The ex-England international didn’t mince words, accusing Casemiro of being too slow, ineffective, and ultimately a liability who now tarnishes the club’s image every time he takes to the pitch. According to Ferdinand, United might have been far better positioned in the title race had they stopped depending on players like him.

The Brazilian, once regarded as a cornerstone of experience in the dressing room, now finds his credibility under serious question. His dismissal against Chelsea did more than just leave his team a man down—it shifted the balance of the game and directly contributed to United dropping valuable points. Supporters wasted no time venting their anger across social media, with many echoing Ferdinand’s stance. Some described Casemiro as finished, insisting that the club must cut ties and inject new energy into the squad. One particularly blunt fan remarked that United can no longer afford to carry “passengers” who fail to keep up with the intensity of the Premier League.

For manager Rúben Amorim, the incident only piles on further pressure. Already facing criticism over his tactical decisions and selection choices, he now has to manage a growing crisis surrounding one of his most senior players. Analysts have pointed out that while Casemiro’s pedigree and career achievements cannot be doubted, the pace and physical demands of English football appear to have caught up with him. Persisting with ageing and underperforming stars, they warn, could jeopardize United’s ambitions of securing a Champions League spot.

This is not the first time Ferdinand has lashed out at United’s current squad, but his latest outburst resonates strongly because it reflects the frustrations bubbling among the fanbase. What makes his comments sting even more is the sense that they carry truth: Casemiro, once hailed as a midfield general, is now being spoken of as a liability. For many supporters, his rash red card against Chelsea may well be remembered as the moment that signaled the beginning of the end for his Manchester United career.
