Ruben Amorim threatens to resign as Manchester United coach if the board refuses to meet his demands, insisting he is not to blame for the club’s struggles.

Manchester United is facing a period of intense turmoil, with head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly threatening to step down if certain conditions are not addressed by the club’s board. Amorim, who took over in November 2024 following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has encountered significant challenges both on and off the pitch. His tenure has been characterized by frustration over financial constraints, internal conflicts, and underwhelming performances, leading to growing tensions within the club.

One of the key sources of Amorim’s dissatisfaction stems from the financial decisions made by the club’s hierarchy. The departure of Erik ten Hag, along with sporting director Dan Ashworth, resulted in a significant financial burden, costing Manchester United approximately £14.5 million. This expenditure contributed to an overall loss of £27.7 million in the final quarter of 2024, further restricting the club’s ability to invest in new players. Amorim has expressed his concerns over these financial difficulties, arguing that the lack of sufficient resources has hindered his efforts to strengthen the squad. His frustration has been compounded by what he perceives as inadequate support from the club’s leadership in achieving his strategic vision.

In addition to financial issues, Amorim’s relationship with the Manchester United board has become increasingly strained due to disagreements regarding player management and transfer policies. One of the most contentious issues has been the handling of Marcus Rashford’s situation. The England international has found himself sidelined due to concerns about his training performances, sparking rumors about a potential exit from the club. Rashford’s uncertain future has become a point of contention between Amorim and the board, with the manager feeling that his authority is being undermined by a lack of clear direction and support in managing key players.

On the pitch, Manchester United’s struggles have mirrored their internal conflicts, leading to growing unrest among the club’s supporters. The team currently sits in a disappointing 15th place in the Premier League standings, having suffered 12 league defeats this season. Their most recent setback came in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham, further fueling dissatisfaction among the fanbase. Many supporters have turned their frustration toward Amorim, criticizing his tactical approach and questioning his ability to inspire the squad. However, Amorim has pushed back against the criticism, insisting that he is not solely to blame for the team’s struggles.

Addressing the ongoing turmoil, Amorim issued a strong statement, warning that he may resign if the necessary changes are not made. “I’m planning to step down if those conditions remain unmet… We can’t succeed without those things. I’m sorry, the fans are all angry at me, and I’m not the one at fault,” he stated. His remarks underscore the deep divisions within the club and highlight the mounting pressure on the Manchester United hierarchy to resolve the crisis before it spirals further out of control.
