Ruben Amorim was very open when asked about Marcus Rashford’s continued absence from Manchester United’s starting lineup. This came after United suffered another Premier League loss, their sixth under Amorim, as they were beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford. The absence of Rashford from the matchday squad has led to much speculation, with many wondering whether it signals his impending departure from the club.
Amorim didn’t hold back in addressing the issue, explaining that Rashford’s exclusion from the squad was due to both his personal decision and the broader situation surrounding the team. The manager revealed that the player’s absence wasn’t merely a tactical choice but also a result of discussions between him and Rashford regarding his future at Manchester United. Amorim made it clear that the decision was mutual, as both parties believed it was in the best interest of the team and the player to step away for the time being while Rashford assessed his options.
This decision comes on the back of statements Rashford made last month, in an interview with journalist Henry Winter, where he expressed that he was open to exploring new opportunities outside of Manchester United. These comments fueled rumors that he might be considering a transfer during the January window, which only added to the uncertainty surrounding his future. Amorim explained that despite the team’s recent struggles, it wasn’t solely Rashford’s absence that was to blame, stating that the issues the team was facing were collective and not just centered around the 27-year-old forward.
Rashford’s last appearance for Manchester United came on December 12, during a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen. Since then, he has been absent from the team, only making one appearance on the bench since then – as an unused substitute in a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on December 30. Since that point, United’s form has dipped, and they have won only three of the nine matches they’ve played, further highlighting the impact of Rashford’s absence.
Despite this, it seems increasingly likely that Rashford will leave Old Trafford. Speculation surrounding his future continues to grow, with reports indicating that AC Milan is currently at the forefront of the race to sign the forward. Several other European clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation as the transfer window draws to a close on February 3. With Rashford’s future uncertain and his exclusion from the team continuing, it seems the 27-year-old could soon be heading for a new chapter in his career away from Manchester United.
