Arsenal is reportedly revisiting their interest in Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, who turned them down two years ago. Despite a decent start in the Premier League with 10 points from their first four fixtures, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal has struggled to find consistency. Arteta has been experimenting with his lineup and integrating new signings, notably Kai Havertz, who is being eased into a midfield role.
While Havertz was brought in partly for his height and hold-up play, Arteta may still believe that his squad needs a more physical striker. This has led to renewed interest in Dusan Vlahovic, who was a prime target for Arsenal in January 2021 as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, Vlahovic chose to join Juventus instead.
Since then, Arsenal has made several attacking signings, including Gabriel Jesus, as an alternative to Vlahovic, renewing Eddie Nketiah’s contract, and bringing in Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz. This has raised questions about the necessity of pursuing the 23-year-old Serbian forward, given the plethora of options in their attacking lineup.
However, Juventus’s exclusion from European competitions due to UEFA rule violations and Vlahovic’s desire to play in the Champions League could make an exit from Turin more likely in the next year. This possibility could be further fueled if Juventus needs funds for a squad rebuild.
Arsenal recently sold Folarin Balogun for approximately £30 million, which provides financial flexibility. Vlahovic is currently valued at around €70 million by Transfermarkt, and Arsenal may be considering investing in his services to bolster their squad’s attacking options.
