Victor Osimhen’s Move to Arsenal Set to Conclude Following Player’s Confirmation in Transfer Message, Stating Arrival Post-Afcon

Victor Osimhen, a player Arsenal is eyeing for a potential transfer, once again demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess during Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations match against Equatorial Guinea. Despite his notable performance, concerns emerged as Nigeria settled for a 1-1 draw in their group stage opener in the Ivory Coast.

Leading the Super Eagles’ attack, Osimhen swiftly responded to Equatorial Guinea’s opener by showcasing adept center-forward instincts, heading in Ademola Lookman’s cross. However, Nigeria’s inability to secure a victory raised concerns, considering they were favorites to advance from Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast.

Iban Salvador’s 36th-minute goal for Equatorial Guinea posed an initial challenge, and although Osimhen’s equalizer displayed his capabilities, Nigeria struggled due to wastefulness in front of goal. Osimhen missed several key opportunities in the second half, with a shot accuracy of only 33% from six chances, managing to get only two shots on target. A golden chance in the final 15 minutes went wide, reflecting recent struggles.

With a £112 million release clause in his Napoli deal, Osimhen has been a prolific scorer, netting 39 goals in the past two seasons, including 31 in 39 appearances last season. Arsenal, seeking a consistent goal-scorer, recognizes Osimhen’s potential fit. While Ivan Toney’s arrival is more likely this month, Osimhen’s signing might be on the horizon for the summer.

Arsenal closely monitors Osimhen’s performances in AFCON, understanding the challenges he faces against defensive low blocks, as seen in the Equatorial Guinea match. The summer transfer window could bring Osimhen to Arsenal, providing a solution to their need for a reliable center-forward, given his impressive goal-scoring track record despite the recent missed opportunities.
