“You have one week to pack and go’: Manchester United manager gives £60m star ultimatum to leave or face contract termination after disastrous showing against West Ham.”

Manchester United’s turbulent season took another disheartening turn on May 11, 2025, as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United. This result has deepened the sense of crisis surrounding the club and cast fresh doubts over its direction and leadership. The defeat was particularly significant, as it marked West Ham’s first Premier League victory at Old Trafford in 18 years—their last coming in 2007. To make matters worse, the loss left Manchester United languishing in 16th place in the league table, sitting only one point above West Ham, who were previously seen as underdogs in this fixture.

The match started brightly for West Ham, who seized the initiative and took the lead in the 26th minute. Midfielder Tomáš Souček was on hand to finish off a well-constructed attacking sequence initiated by Mohammed Kudus. The Hammers continued to exploit United’s lack of cohesion and extended their lead in the 57th minute when Jarrod Bowen capitalized on a breakdown in the home side’s midfield organization. His well-placed finish left the United defense scrambling and effectively sealed the outcome of the game.

While Manchester United showed attacking intent, recording 20 shots throughout the match, they were unable to convert any of their chances. West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola delivered a standout performance, making a number of critical saves that frustrated the home side and ensured his team left with a clean sheet. United’s inability to score despite their numerous attempts pointed to a deeper problem within the squad—namely, inefficiency in the final third and a lack of clinical edge.

Worryingly for United fans, this defeat represented the 12th time this season that the team has gone behind at Old Trafford—a grim new record that underscores their persistent defensive fragility. The repeated pattern of falling behind at home has not only cost them valuable points but also severely dented their confidence and rhythm as a unit.

With the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur looming on May 21, the pressure on manager Rúben Amorim has intensified. The West Ham defeat casts serious doubt on the squad’s form and mental readiness heading into such a high-stakes encounter. Critics and supporters alike are now questioning whether Amorim can rally his team in time to salvage their season. If United are to emerge victorious in Europe, significant improvements—particularly in defense and goal conversion—will need to be made u
