David de Gea, once a stalwart goalkeeper for Manchester United, left the club during the summer, and now he is eager to resume playing football. His departure from the English club sparked interest from various teams, both internationally and domestically.
Numerous clubs, including those from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer, expressed a keen interest in signing the 32-year-old Spanish star during the summer transfer window. However, De Gea declined these offers, expressing his desire to return to Spain. Currently, there’s a possibility of an offer from his home country, as Real Betis and Valencia have shown interest in the free agent.
Since parting ways with Manchester United in June, De Gea has been without a professional club. To maintain his fitness and readiness for potential opportunities, he has diligently continued his individual training sessions.
Having spent an impressive 12 years at Old Trafford, De Gea’s performance has seen a decline over the past two seasons. This decline in form prompted Manchester United’s manager at the time, Erik ten Hag, to acquire Andre Onana from Inter Milan, reinforcing the goalkeeping position.
In evaluating potential destinations, it appears that Real Betis may be the more suitable choice for De Gea. The club, situated in Seville, is currently grappling with a goalkeeper crisis due to Rui Silva’s injury and the return of the 40-year-old Claudio Bravo from an extended absence. De Gea’s vast experience could position him as a highly reliable option for Real Betis in this time of need.
- On the other hand, a move to Valencia would present tougher competition for the 32-year-old. The presence of the young Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili would pose a challenge for De Gea, and he wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting position every week.
