FIFA Approves Switch for 22-Year-Old Goalkeeper with 11 England Youth Caps, a Chelsea Summer Target, to Represent the Super Eagles

In an exclusive report, OwnGoalNigeria.com has disclosed that FIFA has officially approved the nationality switch for former England youth team goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo. The 22-year-old, currently on loan from Arsenal to Wrexham in English League Two, expressed his desire to change his nationality from England to Nigeria.

Okonkwo, who represented England at the junior level in 11 matches between the ages of 15 and 18, received FIFA’s approval for the switch. This development opens the door for him to be considered for selection by Jose Peseiro, the head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team. However, Peseiro’s decision will be contingent on Okonkwo’s performance, with Stanley Nwabali, the Chippa United goalkeeper, having established himself as the team’s primary choice following an impressive showing at the AFCON.

Having maintained an outstanding record of 26 clean sheets in 26 appearances for Wrexham in the third division, Okonkwo has proven his goalkeeping prowess. He conceded only 26 goals during this period. His commendable season with Austrian team Sturm Graz, where he secured six clean sheets in 18 games last year, adds to his credentials.

Okonkwo’s journey includes a loan spell at Crewe Alexandria in League Two, where he achieved ten clean sheets in 36 appearances in the first half of the previous season before joining the Austrian team. As he completes his loan period at Wrexham and returns to Arsenal in the summer, both his club and international future will be determined. His performance on the field will play a crucial role in shaping his trajectory, and Peseiro will closely monitor his capabilities before making any decisions regarding his role in the Nigerian national team.
