Manchester City reportedly rejected three loan offers for rising talent Oscar Bobb during the summer transfer window, with one of the bids coming from the esteemed Italian club, Lazio. Notably, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared this insight, along with quotes from Bobb on the X platform, previously known as Twitter.
Pep Guardiola elevated Bobb to the City first team at the beginning of the season, following the player’s impressive performances in the club’s EDS (Elite Development Squad). Despite not yet featuring in the first team, Bobb was included in almost all of City’s matchday squads this season, participating in seven matches across various divisions and joining the team’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Romano indicated that Bobb garnered significant interest during the summer, but City rebuffed all three loan offers, including the one from Lazio, suggesting the club saw potential in the young winger for immediate first-team action.
Martin Odegaard praised Bobb, calling him “fantastic” on the ball. Although Bobb has had limited opportunities to showcase his skills, he impressed in the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United, earning accolades as possibly City’s best player that night, even in a losing effort.
City’s decision to retain Bobb despite loan offers underscores their belief in his ability to contribute to Guardiola’s first team. The comparison to established talents like Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, who emerged from the youth system without loan spells, raises speculation about Bobb’s future development.
Bobb himself expressed a desire to remain at City, rejecting the possibility of a loan move, emphasizing his love for the club. The narrative suggests that City values the development in their EDS and sees Bobb as a potential asset at the Etihad Stadium, following in the footsteps of other successful academy graduates.
