Manchester City reportedly rejected three loan offers, including one from Lazio, for promising talent Oscar Bobb during the summer transfer window, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. Despite interest from clubs, City manager Pep Guardiola promoted Bobb to the first team this season, following his impressive performances in the club’s EDS (Elite Development Squad). The young winger featured in all but two of City’s matchday squads this season, making seven appearances across various competitions and earning praise, notably after a standout performance against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.
Romano highlighted the demand for Bobb, with Lazio, a prominent Italian club competing in the Champions League, being one of the suitors. City, however, opted to retain the Norwegian international, emphasizing their belief in his readiness for first-team action. Martin Odegaard described Bobb as “fantastic” on the ball, indicating the high regard fellow professionals hold for the young talent.
Despite not yet featuring for City’s first team, Bobb expressed his interest in remaining with the club, rejecting the option of a loan move, citing his love for playing at City. This decision aligns with City’s apparent confidence in Bobb’s potential impact, with Guardiola praising his performances and describing him as “more than brilliant.”
The situation draws parallels with the development paths of Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, who successfully emerged from the club’s academy without experiencing loan spells. Bobb’s commitment to City and the club’s trust in his abilities raise speculation about his future trajectory, leaving fans hopeful for a successful career at the Etihad Stadium without the need for external loans.
