Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that two of his players sustained injuries ahead of the crucial game against Arsenal. Chelsea, on the other hand, has disclosed that Carney Chukwuemeka and Trevoh Chalobah, who were on the road to recovery, have encountered setbacks in their injury rehabilitation.
In a statement, Chelsea acknowledged that defender Trevoh Chalobah and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka have faced recent setbacks in their efforts to return from injuries sustained earlier in the season. This unfortunate turn of events has forced both players to undergo further evaluation before continuing their recovery under the supervision of the club’s medical staff at Cobham.
Chukwuemeka, who had an impressive start to the season, suffered a knee injury against West Ham and has been sidelined ever since. Chalobah, in contrast, has not featured at all this season due to a thigh injury that is still in the process of healing.
Reece James, a key player for Chelsea, is also unlikely to participate in the upcoming London match against Arsenal. After injuring his hamstring in August, he has been out of action since the season’s opening game. Although he had been training in isolation during the international break, he remained optimistic about his recovery and aimed to make a swift return.
Fortunately for Chelsea, Malo Gusto is set to make his return after serving a suspension following a controversial red card received in the loss to Aston Villa. However, Armando Broja has a minor injury and is likely to start on the bench, while Nicolas Jackson, who recently underwent wrist surgery, is a more probable starter in the attack.
The return of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo to the club following their international duties in South American World Cup qualifiers is anticipated, but their fitness will be assessed upon their arrival. Cole Palmer and Axel Disasi are expected to recover from their injuries sustained during the international break.
Unfortunately, Chelsea will have to wait for the return of several key players, including Ben Chilwell, Christopher Nkunku, and Romeo Lavie, as their recovery timelines are projected to be extended.
